Foods, macronutrients and breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women

Dr Kathryn Bradbury's work looking at the links between intake of alcohol, as well as fruit and fibre, and breast cancer was recently published in the International Journal of Epidemiology.

This research looked at the associations between diet and breast cancer in a really large study of approximately 700,000 women in the UK. In line with previous evidence, there was a strong association between alcohol and breast cancer - women who drank more alcohol had a higher risk of breast cancer. "We also found women who ate more fruit and fibre had a lower risk of breast cancer, but we are not sure if these associations are causal," said Dr Kathryn Bradbury.
