Aotearoa New Zealand - 28th November - Drive smokefree for tamariki

smoking

In Aotearoa New Zealand, second-hand smoke is the greatest cause of death from among any environmental causes. There is no safe amount of exposure to second-hand smoke, and it is especially dangerous for tamariki due to their lower body weight and smaller lungs. Exposure to second-hand smoke during pregnancy can reduce fetal growth and lead to other complications.

Remember, from the 28th of November 2021 it is illegal to smoke and vape in a vehicle when there are children under the age of 18 present.

NIHI supports this move and is continuously working on studies to support smoking cessation both in NZ and overseas.
