Mobility restrictions and the incidence of COVID-19 - a real-time evaluation

New Normal
Despite the significant societal costs, most countries have implemented mobility restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. A real-time evaluation of 34 countries was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of mobility restrictions on limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Findings from this research show that while mobility restrictions appear to be effective in reducing the spread of COVID-19 in many countries, particularly in the early phase of the waves of the pandemic, the effectiveness of these measures may be attenuated once other mitigation strategies have been adopted.

It is critical for policymakers to understand the effectiveness of mobility restrictions in limiting COVID-19 due to the economic and societal impacts these measures have on the population.
